Event Notes:

Briones Lagoons and Tabletop Hike

We will look for seemingly elusive wildflowers on a sunny day at Briones. Join us at 9:30am for your choice of a moderate+ 6 mile/1600' short hike, a moderate++ 7 mile/1900' medium hike, or a challenging 8.9 mile/2200' long hike.

Route will be Diablo View Trail, left on Spengler, right on Table Top Trail. A bench at the top offers great views and the short hike snack break. Hike continues right on Briones Crest through the gate, staying straight where it splits off to the left. At Old Briones Road, the hikes split with the short hike turning right on Old Briones. Turn right on Spengler down the hill and left on Alhambra Creek Trail back to the start.

The medium and long hikes also turn right, then left on Briones Crest (you never actually left it), and then a right on Lagoon. Stop at the Sindicich Lagoon for a snack break before continuing down lagoon. Stay right at the split onto Toyon Canyon. The hikes make a final split at Pine Tree Trail. The medium hike continues straight onto Pine Tree, then right at the next junction to stay on Pine Tree. Stay straight right onto Orchard, crossing the paved road and continuing back to the start. The long hike makes a hard right turn on Pine Tree following it up toward the road, but staying on the right side of the gate all the way up toward the restrooms. Continue up on Old Briones Road, left on Spengler, left Alhambra Trail back to the start. You may choose the gravel road on the left of the creek, or find the sometimes treacherous single track on the right side of the creek.

Please note: This group does not stay together on the hike instead relying on arrows put on the ground with flour to mark turns. You are encouraged to stay with others who are hiking your speed and you should also carry the trail route map either downloaded to your phone or in paper form.

Trail Notes:

Briones' 6,255 acres are home to many animals and birds, which forage on the grasslands or find shelter among the oaks and bays. You may see black-tailed deer, coyotes, squirrels, red-tailed hawks, turkey vultures, and, if you are lucky, other more reclusive creatures. There are gorgeous wildflower displays in season.
