Starting at 9:30 am from Shell Ridge Bob Pond entrance is a moderate 6.5-mile 1400-ft elevation gain hike with the option to extend it to 7.5 miles.
Route from Bob Pond is Borges Ranch Trail to Twin Ponds, right on the far side Twin Ponds Loop Trail to Bullfrog Pond, continuing uphill to Foothills Trail. Then left on Foothills Trail, left on Stonegate Trail to Briones to Mt. Diaablo Trail. Left on Briones to Mt. Diablo Trail, pass the first Buckeye Ravine Trail then right on the second Buckeye Ravine Trail, right on Fairy Lantern Trail, continuing right on Fairy Lantern Trail, left on Stage Road to Castle Rock Park.
After a short rest/snack stop, return on Stage Road, right on Fairy Lantern trail, left on Buckeye Ravine Trail, right on Briones to Mt. Diablo Trail, right on Ridge Top Trail, right on Costanoan Trail. The short hike continues downhill on Costanoan Trail to return to Bob Pond.
The long hike will turn left on Flat Top Trail, continuing right on Flat Top Trail, right on Hanna lane Trail to return to Bob Pond.
Water and restrooms at Bob Pond and Borges Ranch. Dogs OK on the trails.

From 680 Fwy, take Ygnacio Valley Rd for 2.3 miles to Walnut Ave (not Blvd). Turn right and proceed for 1.6 miles to the traffic circle. Take 1st exit onto Oak Grove Rd and continue on Castle Rock Rd for 1.0 mile. Turn right onto the signed road to Borges Ranch and continue for 0.6 mile to Bob Pond parking area. From the east, take Ygnacio Valley Rd to Oak Grove Rd. Turn left and proceed for 1.0 mile to the traffic circle. Continue straight on Oak Grove and continue on Castle Rock Rd for 1.0 mile. Turn right onto the signed road to Borges Ranch and continue for 0.6 mile to Bob Pond parking area.
