Ten Hills and a Lake Hike

NOTE EARLIER START TIME!! Join us for a hike through Lake Chabot Regional Park at 9:00 am. Hiker's choice of a moderate 7 mile/1300' short hike or a challenging 9.7/1900' long hike on a cloudy day.

Please either print out or download to your phone the trail route map here. Starting at the lawn area next to the main sign panel, we will head up East Shore, right on Indian Cove, left on McGregor George, cross roadway near park HQ and pickup Ten Hills Trail. Continue to a right to stay on Ten Hills looping around to the Proctor Staging. Continue on Proctor trail looping back to Ten Hills and retracing a short distance. After passing the first Cameron Loop, take a NoName trail to the right for an out and back on the hilltop. The short hike will break there. Return back right on Ten Hills and right on Cameron Loop Trail. At the East Shore junction the hikes diverge. Short hike turns left and follows the shoreline all the way back to the cars.

The long hike turns right a short distance to a left towards Live Oak Trail. Turn right up Live Oak, left on Towhee down along the campground road. Pickup Huck's trail and take a break on the lawn near the restroom building on the corner. Continue down Huck's trail through the campgrounds back toward the lake. At the bottom turn left on Honker Bay Trail back to the Live Oak Junction. Backtrack to the Short/Long split and follow the East Shore Trail back to the start. Dogs allowed. Flour arrows may mark your route.

Please note: This group does not stay together on the hike instead relying on arrows put on the ground with flour to mark turns. You are encouraged to stay with others who are hiking your speed and you should also carry the trail route map (link above) either downloaded to your phone or in paper form.

Trail Notes:

Lake Chabot Reservoir was built in 1874-75 as a primary source of water for the East Bay. The 315-acre lake was closed to recreation for 91 years. Legislation passed in the 1960s opened the lake for controlled recreational uses. Currently, the lake serves as a standby emergency water supply. For this reason, visitors are asked to observe certain necessary regulations to keep the waters pure.
