Fall BDM Hike

Join us for a hike in EBRPD Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. Your choice of a
6.5 mile, 1400ft elevation, or
8.5 mile, 1900 ft elevation gain hikes

Starting from the Visitors Center we'll follow River View Loop, River View, Carbondale, and Ridge Trails to a short snack on the ridge with views of Mt Diablo and the Delta. We continue on Ridge, and Chaparral Loop Trails where the hikes split up.

The short hike turns right at the bridge to follow Chaparral Loop Trail around the hill to the stairs by the Eureka Slope. Descending the stairs to follow Somersville Road Trail to a right on Stewartville, and left on Railroad Bed Trails back to the parking lot.

The Long hike turns left at the bridge onto Manhattan Canyon Trail up the canyon to Black Diamond Trail. Following it around to Nortonville Trail and down to Manhattan Canyon Trail back to the bridge. At the bridge following the same route as the short hike on Chaparral Loop, Somersville Road, Stewartville, and Railroad Bed Trails back to the cars.

Let's explore the canyons, ridges, valleys and mines of historic Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. There are over 61 miles of trail as well as a visitor center and mine tours.

From Highway 4, take exit #26A. Turn right on Somersville Rd and head south 1.4 miles. Continue straight through the entrance gate on Somersville, do not make any turns, following it all the way into the park, about 1.2 miles. Just after the entry kiosk, turn left into the Sidney Flat Visitor Center Parking Area. We are meeting in the lower parking lot!

Parking Fee: $5 on weekends
