Event Notes:

Hikers choice of a 6.7 mile 900 foot or 7.4 mile 1,100 foot elevation gain balloon hike on Hayward's Greenbelt Hiking and Riding Trails starting from the historic Hayward Plunge. Route will be Wally Wickander Memorial Trail, short right along Campus Drive, left on Ward Canyon Trail, straight on Durham Way, left down East Avenue Trail with the short hike stopping along the trail at a cluster of picnic tables to rest/snack. Long hike will make a 340 degree right turn at those tables and continue uphill into East Avenue Park to rest/snack the tables near the park bathrooms. Both return continuing down East Avenue Trail and retrace back along the Wally Wickander Memorial Trail to the parking area. Water & bathrooms at trailhead and also at East Avenue Park for the long hikers.

Hayward Plunge Trailhead provides access to over 7 miles of shaded trails along two heavily wooded canyons.

Hayward Plunge/Hayward Memorial Park, 24176 Mission Blvd. From San Ramon: Take Crow Canyon Road which becomes Grove Way as you pass under Hwy 580. Turn left onto A Street (at Trader Joe's) then left onto Mission Blvd. (Stay in the left lanes on Mission Blvd. or you will be forced to turn right onto Jackson St.) You can not make a left turn directly into the Hayward Plunge/Memorial Park so you must pass by it and make a U-turn at Highland Blvd. Then turn right into the parking lot. From Dublin: Take Hwy 580 West and exit at Redwood Road and go west where Redwood Road becomes A Street. Turn left onto Mission Blvd. and follow info above. From Oakland: Take HWY 580 East, exit at Redwood Road west and follow info above. Park behind the tennis courts by the bathrooms.
