San Pablo to Tilden Peace(ful) Lookout #2

NOTE EARLIER START TIME!! Join us for a hike from San Pablo Reservoir up to Wildcat Canyon and through Tilden at 9:00 am. This is a moderately challenging 7.6 mile/1700 foot hike with some nice views of the bay and the city.

Please either print out or download to your phone the trail route map here. We will gather at the first parking area after the entrance kiosk, there is a $7 entry fee. A Carpool option is available above if you would like to save on the fees. The hike starts along Old San Pablo Dam Road before crossing busy San Pablo Dam Road. We then start our climb up to the ridge on Eagle's Nest Trail. At the top pass through the gate and turn left on Nimitz Way. Turn right on Conlon Trail. After 1/4 mile you will see a lone overlook bench, turn left on No Name Trail, through a gate and continue on the unmarked trail. When you reach the large trail turn right, this is Wildcat Peak Trail. Follow the trail down for a mile, then left on Sylvan Trail. Cross Loop Road and stay left to take Jewel Lake Trail to the left. Follow it straight down to a clearing and to the Visitor Center for a break.

After the break head up to the right on Laurel Canyon Trail, right on Loop Road, left on Pine Tree Trail. At the T make a right on Laurel Canyon Trail. Turn left on Laurel Canyon Road, then stay right on Wildcat Peak Trail. At a junction stay left to remain on the trail passing the Peace Grove and then a right up to the Lookout. Take a short break here to take in the view and rest after the climb. Continue on Wildcat Peak Trail to the right, then retrace your steps on the No Name Trail we came in on. After passing through the gate and past the lookout bench, turn right on Conlon, left on Nimitz and right on Eagle's Nest retracing your steps back to the parking area. Trails will be marked with flour arrows.

Please note: This group does not stay together on the hike instead relying on arrows put on the ground with flour to mark turns. You are encouraged to stay with others who are hiking your speed and you should also carry the trail route map (link above) either downloaded to your phone or in paper form.
