Event Notes:

Choose either a 6.8 mile 800 foot or 7.9 mile 1,100 foot elevation gain balloon hike starting below the dam in San Leandro's Chabot Park. Route will be West Ridge Trail, Bass Cove Trail, Columbine Trail, Quail Trail, Lost Ridge Trail, Hawk Ridge Road stopping to rest/snack at the logs lining the meadow at Hawk Ridge Campground. Return on Columbine Trail, after crossing the small foot bridge short hike will go left an retrace route back on Bass Cove and West Ridge back to the cars. Long hike will go right after crossing the small foot bridge continuing on Columbine Trail, then left uphill at the Columbine-Cascade Trail junction, left on Goldenrod Trail. continue straight on Bass Cove Trail, and down West Ridge Trail. Water/bathrooms at Chabot Park trailhead and Hawk Ridge.

San Leandro's Chabot Park provides access to Lake Chabot's West Ridge Trail starting from below the dam.

San Leandro's Chabot Park, Estudillo Ave. and Sylvan Circle, use 1725 Estudillo Ave., San Leandro for GPS. Heading West on HWY 580 from Pleasanton, take Exit 31. Estudillo/Downtown. Very first right onto MacArthur, very next right onto Estudillo Ave. Follow Estudillo Ave. 4/10 mile to its end which is the entrance to the park. Tricky road, you will need to bear left to stay on Estudillo Ave., DO NOT go right on Lake Chabot Road. Heading East on HWY 580 from Oakland take Exit 31A, Dutton Ave/Estudillo. Continue straight after exiting then turn left on Estudillo Ave. and follow directions above to the park entrance.
