Christmas Eve on the Rocks

Join us Christmas Eve morning at 9:30am for a hike on Mount Diablo. Your choice of a moderate 6 mile/1300' shorter hike or a moderately challenging 8.2 mile/1800' long hike. For DRIVING DIRECTIONS click where it says Trail Map in the write up.

Please download and print out the trail route map here. Route will be Knobcone Point, right on Utility Road, right on No Name Trail, right on Utility Road #2, right Blackhawk Ridge Rd, left Sycamore Creek, right Devil's Slide, left Madrone Canyon to Rock City. We will break somewhere suitable down on Madrone, look for the X! Hike continues up the Trail through Time up through Rock City. At the junction with Summit Trail, the hikes diverge. Short hike turns right following Summit Trail until you meet the T near the road. Turn right on Camp Force (Summit Trail turns left) and then across the road and back to the cars.

The long hike turns left on Summit Trail and takes it back down the mountain to Live Oak Camp, left up the roadway, right on Fossil Ridge, left on Artist Point, down the roadway and back up toward Rock City following the arrows on some side trails through Rock City and on up to the junction with Sentinel Rock (CCC Trail). Those who want to climb Sentinel Rock will turn left for an out and back. The others will proceed up to Summit Trail, turning right, then left on Staircase Trail, right on Summit, straight onto Camp Force, across the road, past the cars, right on Camp Force trail for an out and back to an overlook over Boy Scout Rocks, then return.

No Dogs Allowed in the State Park. Restrooms available at Rock City. We will be carpooling from Danville Park & Ride at 8:30 am. See Carpool Info Above.

From Highway 680 exit Diablo Road. Follow the brown parks signs: drive east on Diablo Road, turn right to continue on Diablo Road at El Cerro, straight at Green Valley, then left onto Mount Diablo Scenic Boulevard at Stop Sign. Drive north on Mount Diablo Scenic Boulevard, which morphs into South Gate Road at the park boundary. Drive carefully uphill on this narrow road (watch out for bicyclists) to the entrance kiosk. Then continue about 1.5 miles to a broad flat parking lot on the right side of the road (the Curry Point sign is near the start of the trail, but it's the first parking lot past Rock City).

Parking Fee: $10
