It's a Lark!


Join us at 9:30am for a hike through the northern side of Black Diamond. A hiker's choice of a moderately challenging 6.5 mile/1660' or a challenging 8.1 mile/1900'. We are starting from the LOWER PARKING LOT just after the entry kiosk!

Please download and print out the trail route map here. Route will be River View Loop, left on Lark, right on connector trail, right on Old Homestead Loop. We will break near a copse of trees prior to Acorn Trail.

The short hike turns left on Acorn, right on Ridge, right through the gate, then down the middle trail which is Stewartville. Turn right on River View Trail, left on Railroad Bed back to the start. The long hike stays on Old Homestead, right on North Portal, right on Contra Loma, right on Ridge, right through the gate, then down the middle trail which is Stewartville. Turn right on River View Trail, left on Railroad Bed back to the start.

Let's explore the canyons, ridges, valleys and mines of historic Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. There are over 61 miles of trail as well as a visitor center and mine tours.

From Highway 4, take exit #26A. Turn right on Somersville Rd and head south 1.4 miles. Continue straight through the entrance gate on Somersville, do not make any turns, following it all the way into the park, about 1.2 miles. Just after the entry kiosk, turn left into the Sidney Flat Visitor Center Parking Area. We are meeting in the lower parking lot!

Parking Fee: $5 on weekends
