Event Notes:

Redwood Bowl to Huckleberry

The Thursday group often gets to explore Huckleberry, but the Sunday group never has. We'll be starting from the Redwood Bowl Staging Area, which may be a new parking area for you, find directions here. Starting at 9:00 am from parking area, this is a hiker's choice of a moderate 7 mile/1400' balloon hike or a moderately challenging 8 mile/1700' hike. Please download and print out the route map here.

We'll head up a connector trail to West Ridge heading past Chabot Science Center and on to Skyline Gate. We'll continue onto East Ridge a short distance to find the Bay Area Ridge Trail to Huckleberry on the left. We'll make a left on lower Huckleberry Path hitting a couple of short out and backs on the hilltops before taking a break at the Huckleberry Parking Area where there is a primitive restroom. Continue on the loop along the upper Huckleberry Path staying right as it becomes the B.A.R.T. We will loop back around and follow our inbound route back to Skyline Gate. The short hike will retrace our steps all the way back to the cars.

The long hike continues left onto Stream Trail, right on Tres Sendas staying right to follow it back up to West Ridge, left. At a small spur off to the right at Moon Gate, head along the spur, then left parallel to the road. We will loop around to the left, cross the road and head straight into Joaquin Miller on Castle Park Trail, staying left. After passing Bayview Trail on the left, stay left to take you to the road. Cross Skyline back to the parking lot.

The trail will be marked with flour arrows along the route. For driving directions click here. There are no facilities located at trailhead, though you can walk down to the Bowl about 10 mins, or stop on your way in at the Joaquin Miller Ranger Station. There are facilities at Skyline Gate and at our break spot in Huckleberry. Sorry, No Dogs Allowed in Huckleberry Preserve. No Fees. See you at 9:00 am!!!
