Trail Notes:

Terrain: mild hills, flat areas, wide and narrow dirt trails, with nice views of the hills. A 2.4 mile loop on Joaquin Ranch trail to Briones to Mt Diablo trail, to Fossil hill trail and return via Indian creek trail. We hiked part of this loop on a previous after-work hike. This time we will do an extra loop and go 0.7 miles further than last time, for a total of 2.4 miles.

Trailhead Directions:

From Berkeley take 24 east (or from San Ramon 680 north) to the ygnacio valley road exit. turn right at the end of the exit ramp and follow YVR for about 5 lights to Walnut Blvd.

From north bound on Ygnacio valley Road in Walnut Creek turn right on Walnut Blvd. (from South bound Ygnacio Valley Road turn left on Walnut Blvd.)

Stay on Walnut blvd for about 2.5 miles till you get to the intersection of Rockspring Pl. Turn left on Rockspring Pl. You will know you are approaching Rockspring when you see 2 tall hill/rock outcroppings appear behind the houses.

Go about 0.2 miles on Rockspring and you will see a clearing where there are no houses. Right before the clearing is a small road on the left. This is the parking area for the trailhead. Turn left onto the road and park on the right side. You will see a few signs at the entrance to the road: "Park open daylight hours only", fire trail 4-3", and no parking 9pm to 6 am". Parking is free and there is additional street parking in the immediate area.
