Event Notes:

About a 5.2 mile, 750 foot elevation gain loop hike starting from Oakland's Joaquin Miller Park Ranger Station. This short and mostly shady hike should be a good antidote for Thursday's high temps. Route will be Sinawik Trail, Sunset Trail, Sequoia-Bayview Trail, Castle Park Trail, Connector Trail to Moon Gate, West Ridge Trail stopping to rest/snack at Redwood Bowl. Return through PAL Camp crossing over Skyline Blvd., Big Trees Trail, Palos Colorados Trail and Sanborn Road back to the parking area. Water/toilets at trailhead and Redwood Bowl. Ignore trail notes below.

Trail Notes:

The rustic woodland trails lead you through redwood groves and oak woodlands and across lush creeksides and wet meadows. Dogs are allowed - on leash - throughout the park and a fenced off-leash dog areas for both large and small dogs is available on park property.

Joaquin Miller Park Ranger Station, 3590 Sanborn Road, Oakland. From San Ramon area HWY 580 West to HWY 13 North. Exit Joaquin Miller Road and turn right uphill onto Joaquin Miller Road for 0.8 mile then left on Sanborn Road. Go 0.1 mile to parking lot on your left at the Joaquin Miller Community Center. From Walnut Creek area, HWY 24 West, after exiting the tunnel, HWY 13 South towards Hayward. Exit Joaquin Miller Road but turn left uphill onto Joaquin Miller Road for 0.8 mile then left on Sanborn Road. Go 0.1 mile to parking lot on your left.
