Event Notes:

B.A.R.T. to Tilden Hike

A Moderate+ 6.8 mile, 1300 ft. out-and-back hike from EBRPD Sibley Volcanic to Tilden on the Bay Area Ridge Trail/Skyline Trail. For the fast hikers, an optional ascent to Volmer Peak adds another 1.6 mile/ 300 ft. of elevation.

We'll start from the main Sibley staging area down the B.A.R.T. to Old Tunnel Rd before ascending to the Steam Trains in Tilden where we will stop to snack.

The Fast hikers will continue to Volmer peak on Volmer Peak, and Seaview Trails before returning to snack.

Both groups will return the same route after the snack/rest stop.

As always, (Mr. Phelps), please use this Google Maps link to find your best route to Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve.

NOTE:The Directions to Trailhead below should be ignored!!

Please use the EBRPD provided route if Google Maps is not available to you.
From Highway 24 take the Fish Ranch Road exit. Continue 0.8 miles to Grizzly Peak Boulevard. Turn left and go 2.4 miles on Grizzly Peak to Skyline Boulevard. Turn left and drive .1 mile to the preserve entrance on the left

Leader: Joel Schantz

Trail Notes:

This 2.6 mile loop hike is easy. Trails have minimal elevation changes and the preserve is small. Trailhead elevation is around 1400 feet. The featured hike climbs to about 1600 feet, then descends back to the trailhead -- total elevation change is about 465 feet. Dogs are permitted.

Trailhead Directions:

From eastbound Highway 24 in Alameda County, exit Claremont. Bear left at the bottom of the exit ramp, then drive about 1.5 miles on Claremont Avenue to the intersection with Ashby. Continue straight through the light on Claremont Avenue (Claremont Boulevard veers left). You should see the Claremont Hotel on the right, as well as a brown "parks" sign for Tilden and Sibley Parks. Continue on Claremont about 2 miles to the intersection with Grizzly Peak Boulevard. Turn right and drive about 2.4 miles to the intersection with Skyline Boulevard. Turn left onto Skyline, and almost immediately, after .1 mile, turn left into the preserve entrance.
