Event Notes:

Spring Trippin' Tilden

Your choice of a
Moderate 6 mile, 1100 ft or
Challenging- 7.5 mile, 1400 ft hike
in EBRPD Tilden Regional Park.

Starting from the Steam Train Parking lot we head out Vollmer Peak, South Park Drive, Youth Camp Road, Grizzly Peak, and Selby Trails to the Island Picnic Area to snack.

After our snack we'll walk behind the Brazil Building over to South Park Drive to reach the Big Springs Trailhead. From here the short hike heads East to ascend to Seaview/Bay Area Ridge Trail.

Meanwhile the longer hike will head North on Big Springs Trail to reach Seaview/Bay Area Ridge Trail for the return to the Parking Lot.

For anyone interested in a nice view an out-and-back option to Vollmer Peak adds another 0.5 mile near the end of the hike.

To reach the Steam Train parking lot please use this Google Maps link.

Note: Please Park in the first paved lot on your left near the restrooms if space is available.

Vollmer Peak Trailhead, located behind behind the Tilden Park steam train, provides access to Tilden Park trails, EBMUD trails, and UC's fire roads & trails.

HWY 24 and Exit Fish Ranch Road. (Very first exit after the tunnel for those traveling east from Oakland!) Go 1 mile up Fish Ranch Road to the stop sign. Turn right onto Grizzly Peak Blvd. Go 1.1 miles to the Tilden Park Steam Train and turn right. Do not park in the first paved lot but continue back to the farthest dirt/gravel parking area, which is the trailhead for Vollmer Peak Trail.
