Event Notes:

Meet at the restrooms about 1/4 mile from the parking area.

A 7.5-mile hike from Castle Rock Park passing by Bob Pond and looping to Borges Ranch before returning to Castle Rock Park. Expect some mud and hope that it will not rain during the hike.

Route will be from Castle Rock Park restrooms across the baseball field through the gate, left on Castle Rock Trail to Castle Rock Road. Then a right on Fairy Lantern Trail, continuing on the southern Shell Ridge Loop Trail to the power tower. Turn left down the hill to the Borges Ranch Trail to Bob Pond. Go past the pond to Hanna Lane Trail, turn left on Flat Top Trail, turn left to continue on Flat Top Trail. Then right on Costanoan Trail for a quick left onto Ridge Top Trail, left onto Briones to Mt. Diablo Trail, then left onto Borges Ranch Trail to the Ranch for a short rest/snack stop.

Return via the Borges Ranch Trail to the power tower at the top of the hill, then right on Shell Ridge Trail, left on the northern Shell Ridge Loop Trail, left onto the Fairy Lantern Trail, left on Stage Road Trail for the return to the starting point.

Dogs OK on the trails. Water, restrooms and picnic tables at Castle Rock Park, Bob Pond and Borges Ranch.

From 24 Fwy take the I-680 N exit on the left toward SACRAMENTO/CONCORD and then exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. From 680 northbound exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. Turn right onto Ygnacio Valley Rd and drive 2.2 miles to Walnut Ave. Turn RIGHT on Walnut Ave and drive 1.6 miles to the roundabout and take the first exit onto Oak Grove Rd. From Ygnacio Valley Rd westbound, turn LEFT onto Oak Grove Rd and drive for 1.1 miles to the roundabout. At the roundabout Oak Grove Rd becomes Castle Rock Rd. Drive for 2.1 miles to the Park. Limited parking is available at the end of Castle Rock Rd but ther is additional parking at the Orchard Staging Area on the right before the end of the road
