Join us in the rolling Black Hills of Mt Diablo and Morgan Territory for a hike out of Finley Road at9:30 am. A hiker's choice of a moderate+ 6.6 mile/1200' hike or an 8.5 mile/1600' challenging one. Due to very limited parking at the trailhead, this is a mandatory carpool hike; we will meet at Danville Park & Ride at 9:00 am! PLEASE bring a change of shoes and a plastic bag in case we encounter mud, your carpool drivers will appreciate it.
Once we make the 20 minute drive, our journey begins with a 3/4 mile walk to get to the trailhead. From there we head up Old Finley Road, right on Sulphur Springs. We will have a snack break where the two hikes split at the first Black Hills Trail junction. The short hike turns left on Black Hills Trail, left on Crestview Road, left on Amphitheater Trail and left on Walnut Trail, then a final left on Old Finley Road back to the cars.
The long hike continues on Sulphur Springs, then left up Black Hills Trail #2. Turn right on Crestview Road, rejoining the short hike, left on Amphitheater Trail and left on Walnut Trail, then a final left on Old Finley Road back to the cars.
The trail will be marked with flour arrows along the route. No Facilities anywhere, please stop before arriving at the carpool. From I-680 take Sycamore Valley Road exit and head east. Travel 1.6 miles and keep straight at the junction of Sycamore Valley Road and Camino Tassajara. The road changes names to Camino Tassajara, continue for 6 miles. You will enter a very rural area, shortly after you will turn left on Finley Road. Continue about 1.4 miles and you will see some parking pull-outs on the side of the road. We will meet at the cars and make the 3/4 mile hike to the trailhead together.
