Event Notes:

B.A.R.T. to Calaveras Fault Trail

Out-of-the-Box, after the Turkey Hike in Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve. An upside down hike starting from the finish of Stage 4, 2011 Tour of California, atop Sierra Road in San Jose. Your choice hike of
1) a short 5.5 mile, 1300 ft.
2) a medium 6 mile, 1400 ft.
3) a long 9.1 mile, 2400 ft.
along the Bay Area Ridge Trail down to Penitencia Creek and beyond.

We'll follow Kestrel, Sierra Vista, and Upper Calaveras Fault Trails to the Cutoff Trail, where the short/long hikes take the short cut down the Cutoff Trail while the medium hike continues on Upper Calaveras Trail. All hikes will continue down Lower Calaveras Fault Trail to the Upper Penitencia Creek crossing where the short/medium hikes will snack.

The long hike continues on to the South, ascending 1000 ft. in 1.8 miles on the Lower Calaveras Fault Trail to their snack spot, before returning the same way.

Finally all hikes will return from Upper Penitencia Creek to the parking lot on Lower Calaveras Fault, Sierra Vista, and Kestrel Trails.

Any one interested in carpooling please meet at the Mission Blvd Park-n-Ride in Fremont 715 Mission Rd. I plan on departing sharply at 8:45an for the 1/2 hour drive to the Sierra Road Staging Area.

Leader: Joel Schantz
