Event Notes:

Redwoods Hike

A moderate 6.3 mile, 1100 ft, or challenging 7.3, 1500 ft hike in EBRPD Redwood Regional Park.

We'll start from Wayside Parking lot and head South to the Fish Ladder, then follow Bridle and Stream Trails to Tres Sendas Trail. At the intersection with Starflower Trail the hikes will split up with the longer hike proceeding up Tres Sendas to French Trail. The shorter, wiser hike will ascend Starflower to French Trail.

Both hikes follow French Trail to Chown Trail to descend to Stream Trail. Weather permitting we'll stop to snack at Trails end. The remainder of the hike follows Stream Trail back to our cars.

Please Note: We are starting from the large Wayside lot on your left, just past the fish ladder.

Also Note: No weekday Parking Fee

Leader: Joel Schantz

Trail Notes:

The West Loop in Redwood Regional Park has it all: Towering redwoods and douglas firs. Sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and East Bay hills. A gurgling creek in winter and early spring. Different climates. Cool, shady and pleasant in Redwood Creek but hot and sunny on the ridge during the dry season.

Logistics: Round trip is between 7 to 8 miles. The elevation gain from the starting point in Redwood Creek to the highest point of the loop at the picnic tables in Redwood Bowl is 900 feet. The segment of the West Ridge Trail between Redwood Bowl and Skyline Gate goes up and down which adds some extra elevation gain.

Big Bear Staging Area will be on the right about one and one-half miles from Skyline Boulevard, followed by MacDonald Staging Area on the right and Redwood Gate on the left (seasonal parking fee - bring at least $5).
