Event Notes:

Meet at Bob Pond at 9:30 am for a 7+/mile 1400-ft elevation gain loop hike in Shell Ridge.

Route is through the gate to a right turn onto the Hanna Lane Trail, left on the Flat Top Trail to its end. Enjoy the view, then return to the Hanna Lane Trail for a left turn to continue, then a left turn onto the Costanoan Trail, keeping left to continue to the Sulfur Creek Trail. Right turn onto the Sulfur Creek Trail to the Costanoan Trail, continuing left uphill on the Costanoan Trail to the 2nd right turn onto the Upper Buck Loop Trail. Then left onto the Deer Lake Trail for a short break at Deer Lake.

Continue past Deer Lake for a right turn onto the Corral Spring Trail, then left onto the Ridge Top Trail, then a left turn onto the Briones to Mt. Diablo Trail. At the top of the hill make a left turn onto the Borges Ranch Trail to return to Bob Pond.

Water and restrooms at Bob Pond. Dogs OK on the trails.

Trail Notes:

Bob Pond is about 0.1 mile before the road ends at Borges Ranch. There are many trails here which provide for a variety of hikes of varying length and difficulty.

From 680 Fwy, take Ygnacio Valley Rd for 2.3 miles to Walnut Ave (not Blvd). Turn right and proceed for 1.6 miles to the traffic circle. Take 1st exit onto Oak Grove Rd and continue on Castle Rock Rd for 1.0 mile. Turn right onto the signed road to Borges Ranch and continue for 0.6 mile to Bob Pond parking area. From the east, take Ygnacio Valley Rd to Oak Grove Rd. Turn left and proceed for 1.0 mile to the traffic circle. Continue straight on Oak Grove and continue on Castle Rock Rd for 1.0 mile. Turn right onto the signed road to Borges Ranch and continue for 0.6 mile to Bob Pond parking area.
