Event Notes:

A 7-mile 1200-foot elevation gain hike with a hikers option to add another 2+-mile 400-foot elevation gain loop.

Route from Bob Pond is Costanoan Trail, right at top of hill on Ridge Top Trail, continue on Ridge Top Trail past Ginder Gap, left on Briones to Mt. Diablo Trail past Marshall Drive staging area, right on Fossil Hill Loop Trail, right on Kovar Trail to Howe Homestead Park for a short rest/snack stop.

Return on Kovar Trail, right on Indian Creek Trail, right on Joaquin Ranch Trail, left on Coyote Pond Trail, right on Briones to Mt. Diablo Trail. Short hike turns left on Borges Ranch Trail passing the Ranch to Bob Pond.

The longer hike continues on Briones to Mt. Diablo Trail, left on Shell Loop Trail, continuing left on Shell Ridge Loop Trail at bottom of hill, continuing left at power towers, left on Borges Ranch Trail to Bob Pond.

Water, restrooms and picnic tables at Bob Pond and Howe Homestead Park. Dogs welcome, off-leash OK on the trails.

Trail Notes:

Bob Pond is about 0.1 mile before the road ends at Borges Ranch. There are many trails here which provide for a variety of hikes of varying length and difficulty.

From 680 Fwy, take Ygnacio Valley Rd for 2.3 miles to Walnut Ave (not Blvd). Turn right and proceed for 1.6 miles to the traffic circle. Take 1st exit onto Oak Grove Rd and continue on Castle Rock Rd for 1.0 mile. Turn right onto the signed road to Borges Ranch and continue for 0.6 mile to Bob Pond parking area. From the east, take Ygnacio Valley Rd to Oak Grove Rd. Turn left and proceed for 1.0 mile to the traffic circle. Continue straight on Oak Grove and continue on Castle Rock Rd for 1.0 mile. Turn right onto the signed road to Borges Ranch and continue for 0.6 mile to Bob Pond parking area.
