French-West Ridge-Stream Trails Hike

Note: 9:00am Start

Your choice hike of a
moderate- 7.5 mile/1300ft, or
moderate 8.4 mile/1600ft, or
moderate+ 8.8 mile/1800ft hike in EBRPD Redwood Regional Park

Starting from the large, shaded, Wayside parking lot we'll head South past the fish ladder to Bridle, Orchard, and French Trails.

At the Fern Trail the shortest hike turns left and ascends to the West Ridge Trail, taking it all the way to the Redwood Bowl to rest/snack.

The medium and longer hikes continue on French to the Madrone Trail, where the medium hike turns left and ascends to the West Ridge Trail/Redwood Bowl to rest/snack.

The longer hike turns right along French and proceeds to the Redwood Peak Trail before joining the West Ridge Trail into the Redwood Bowl to rest/snack.

After our break, all hikers will return via Roberts Ridge and West Ridge Trails to Tres Sendas Trail where we descend to the Stream Trail. We then follow the Stream Trail, (to Chown Trail), to Bridle Trail back to the Fish Ladder and our cars.

Note: Please park at the Wayside Area Parking lot with a nearby toilet. The large Wayside Parking Lot is on your left, past the fish ladder. Please click on this Google Maps link for directions to the parking lot.

Leader: Joel Schantz

Trail Notes:

The West Loop in Redwood Regional Park has it all: Towering redwoods and douglas firs. Sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and East Bay hills. A gurgling creek in winter and early spring. Different climates. Cool, shady and pleasant in Redwood Creek but hot and sunny on the ridge during the dry season.

Logistics: Round trip is between 7 to 8 miles. The elevation gain from the starting point in Redwood Creek to the highest point of the loop at the picnic tables in Redwood Bowl is 900 feet. The segment of the West Ridge Trail between Redwood Bowl and Skyline Gate goes up and down which adds some extra elevation gain.
