Event Notes:

A moderate, 8.3-mile 1300-foot elevation gain hike from Castle Rock Park into Mount Diablo State Park to Camel Rock. And an optional 1.6-mile add-on loop for more ambitious hikers.

Route from the restrooms will be across the baseball field and through the gate, left on Castle Rock Trail, continue on Stage Road, left on Sunset Trail to the ridge top, continue down Falcon Road and cross North Gate Road to continue on Camel Rock Trail, left on Burma Road for a short distance to Camel Rock which is on the right near some trees.

After a brief snack/rest stop, the short hike returns down Burma Road, crossing North Gate Road and continuing for 0.5 mile, then left to continue down Burma Road, right on Stage Road to the trailhead.

The long hike hike returns down Burma Road, crossing North Gate Road, then a quick left down Buckeye Trail, and right on Stage Road to the trailhead.

Water and restrooms at Castle Rock Park. Dogs not allowed in Mt. Diablo State Park. Arrive at the end-of-road parking area by 9:30 a.m. Meet at the restrooms about 1/4 mile inside Castle Rock Park by 9:40. Parking area often fills before our hikes, so allow extra time as it may be necessary to park in the Orchard overflow area.

From 24 Fwy take the I-680 N exit on the LEFT toward SACRAMENTO/CONCORD and then exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. From 680 Fwy exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. Turn RIGHT onto Ygnacio Valley Rd and drive 2.2 miles to Walnut Ave (NOT Walnut Blvd). Turn RIGHT on Walnut Ave and drive 1.6 miles to the roundabout and take the first exit onto Oak Grove Rd. From Ygnacio Valley Rd westbound, turn LEFT onto Oak Grove Rd and drive for 1.1 miles to the roundabout. From the roundabout, Oak Grove Rd becomes Castle Rock Rd. Drive for 2.1 miles to the Park. Limited parking is available at the end of Castle Rock Rd but ther is additional parking at the Orchard Staging
