Event Notes:

Leisure Stroll through Redwood Regional

We will take a break from our strenuous hiking of late and opt for a more leisurely stroll from one end of Redwood Regional to the other and back. A moderate 8.5 mile/1500 ft or a moderate 6.5 mile/1300 ft loop hike, we should avoid the sticky mud present right now in many of the other parks we frequent.

Starting from the large Wayside Parking lot (on the left before Canyon Meadow), we cross Redwood Creek by the fish ladder and continue on the Bridle Trail, left on Orchard, right on French, left on Madrone and right on West Ridge Trail to a snack break at Redwood Bowl. Return on the West Ridge Trail, left on Redwood Peak Trail. The short hike will turn right on French, left on Starflower, right on Tres Sendas and right on Stream Trail to the parking lot.

The long hike will turn left on French, right on West Ridge to the Skyline Gate, right on Stream Trail across the entire park back to the starting point. Flour arrows and detailed maps will guide your way, facilities are available at Canyon Meadow Staging near the start and at Redwood Bowl. Dogs OK, but must be on-leash on the Stream Trail. WE WILL MEET AT WAYSIDE PARKING before you get to Canyon Meadow.

Trail Notes:

The West Loop in Redwood Regional Park has it all: Towering redwoods and douglas firs. Sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and East Bay hills. A gurgling creek in winter and early spring. Different climates. Cool, shady and pleasant in Redwood Creek but hot and sunny on the ridge during the dry season.

Logistics: Round trip is between 7 to 8 miles. The elevation gain from the starting point in Redwood Creek to the highest point of the loop at the picnic tables in Redwood Bowl is 900 feet. The segment of the West Ridge Trail between Redwood Bowl and Skyline Gate goes up and down which adds some extra elevation gain.
