The area is home of the Volvon, one of five historical Indian nations in the Mount Diablo area. This trail, named after the first people to live here, is the park's featured hike. This is a moderate hike of 5.7 miles, with unknown elevation change. Dogs are permitted on this trail. We'll start on Volvon Trail, looping around the park's highest peak, then return via Coyote Trail.
Parking Fee: no charge
From Walnut Creek: From I-680 North or Hwy 24 East, exit at Ygnacio Valley Road and turn RIGHT at bottom of off ramp at stoplight. Proceed eastbound on Ygnacio Valley Road to Clayton Road in Concord (approximately 10 miles) and turn right (east) onto Clayton Road.
Or From Concord: From I-680 South, exit at Treat Blvd. Turn left (south) at the stop light, then immediate left (east) at the next stop light (Treat Blvd). Follow Treat all the way up the hill into Concord (approx 8 miles). Turn right (east) onto Clayton Road.
Follow Clayton Road downhill into the town of Clayton. At light turn right onto Marsh Creek Road, follow to end, then turn right again onto Marsh Creek Road. (NOTE: Clayton Road becomes Marsh Creek Road, so alternatively you could also simply follow Clayton Road until it becomes Marsh Creek Road (at stop light). In this case DO NOT make any right turns -- instead keep going straight and this path too will become Marsh Creek Road!)
Continue on Marsh Creek to Morgan Territory Road, turn right. Drive 9.4 miles to the Morgan Territory staging area which will be on the left side of the road.
From Dublin, take I-580 towards Livermore, exit at North Livermore Avenue. Turn north and drive to the junction of Morgan Territory Road. Turn right and drive 5.5 miles (narrow and winding road) to the Morgan Territory staging area on the right side of the road (just past the ridge summit).
