Los Vaqueros Interpretive Center
Thursday, December 31, 2015 @ 9:30 AM
NOTE:
New Year's Eve Hike with the Eagles

Join us for our last hike of 2015 as we explore the dam side of Los Vaqueros while it is still open. A hiker's choice of a Challenging 9 mile/2000 ft loop hike or a moderate 6 mile/900 ft out and back. This area is closed part of the year due to the nesting Golden Eagle population, and much of the time that it is open it's just too hot to hike in. So come out and enjoy the rolling hills as they turn from golden to emerald green! Traffic should be holiday light and it's a reverse commute nevertheless.

Route will be Los Vaqueros Interpretive Trail to Los Vaqueros Trail. The short hike will turn around at the toilets (after a rest) near the junction of Badger Pass and retrace the route back to the start. The long hike will continue right on Badger Pass, right on Oak Savannah, right on Eagle Ridge. We will take a break on the rocky outcrop to refuel before making a steep ascent on up Eagle Ridge.

Hike continues right on Vista Grande at the emergency call beacon for another series of climbs to the top. Another brief rest stop is offered where several benches (and a sky-view toilet) proffers grand views of Mt. Diablo, Round Valley, Morgan Territory, the reservoir, Brushy Peak, and the San Joaquin River Delta. Hike continues down Vista Grande, left on Crest Trail and back to the start.

We will meet at the very end of Walnut Blvd. at the foot of the dam right next to the Interpretive Center. Detailed maps will be available and flour arrows will mark your route. Facilities are available at the trailhead as well as at two other stops as mentioned above. Entrance fee is $6 or $4 for residents of CC Water District.
