NOTE: A two-option hike, 6.5-miles with 1600-foot elevation gain, or 9.15-miles with 2800-foot elevation gain to view the Mount Diablo Waterfalls. Route will be Donner Canyon Road, Bruce Lee, Wasserman, Cardinet Oaks, and Falls trails to the Falls where we will take a short rest/snack/photo break. Return via the Falls Trail, Middle Trail, and Meridian Ridge Road to the Meridian Point Trail junction. This will be the decision point for the longer hike. The shorter hike will continue down Meridian Point Trail, Back Creek Trail, Back Creek Road and Donner Canyon Road to the trailhead. The longer hike will continue up Meridian Ridge Road, and Prospectors Gap Road to Murchio Gap, then Eagle Peak Trail to Eagle Peak. Continue on Eagle Peak Trail, Coulter Pine Trail, Bruce Lee Road, Murchio and Donner Canyon Roads to the trailhead. Expect some mud from the recent rains so hiking poles are recommended. No facilities at Regency Gate and no dogs allowed in the park.

Coyote Hills Regional Park: Tuibun Trail/Coyote Hills

NOTE: FRIDAY hike! About an 8.5 mile, 800 foot elevation gain loop hike in Fremont's Coyote Hills Regional Park. Route will be Tuibun Trail, Bayview Trail, Meadowlark Loop Trail, Soaproot Trail, single track trail to the top of Glider Hill where we will snack/rest/enjoy the view. Then Red Hill Trail, Bayview Trail, Pelican Trail, Alameda Creek Trail, Bayview Trail, Lizard Rock Trail, Chochenyo Trail & Tuibun Trail back to parking area. No facilities at trailhead but water/porta-potty at the 1-mile mark.

NOTE:

Little Yosemite WaterFalls Loop

A challenging 1700 ft, 7.5 mile hike in EBRPD Sunol Regional Wilderness.

This hike starts at the end of Geary Rd near the new Bridge. We will take Camp Ohlone Road past the waterfalls to Backpack Road, McCorkle Trail, Cerro Este Road, Cave Rocks Road, Indian Joe Creek Trail, Canyon View Trail, McCorkle Trail, and finally back across Alameda Creek on Camp Ohlone Road.

An additional 2 mile, longer hike may be attempted for those who are interested. The Camp Ohlone Road Trailhead is located at 37.50991,-121.82862

Tilden Regional Park: Island/Selby Trail

NOTE: About a 7.5 mile, 1,000 foot elevation gain loop hike beginning at Tilden Park's ISLAND picnic area. Route will be Selby Trail, Memory Trail, Upper Packrat Trail, Sylvan Trail, Wildcat Peak Trail stopping to rest/snack at Wildcat Peak lookout. Return on Wildcat Peak Trail, Laurel Canyon Road, Laurel Canyon Trail, Pine Tree Trail, Loop Road, Wildcat Gorge Trail & Selby Trail back to parking area. Water/bathrooms at trailhead.

NOTE: This is an 8 mile hike to the Nike Missile site and back to Inspiration Pt. The trail is a combination of blacktop and gravel. No mud, but you can find it if you want take any of the side trails. On a sunny day, the views are fantastic.

NOTE:

Diablo Foothills - Leaders Choice

A moderate 7 or more mile hike of Diablo Foothills and Mount Diablo State Park.

We'll start from the Orchard Staging area on Castle Rock, Borges Ranch, Shell Ridge, Fairy Lantern, Buckeye Ravine, Briones-to-Mt-Diablo, and Little Yosemite Trails to a snack break. The return will be along Pine Canyon on the Stage Road and Castle Rock Trails.

Mud and or excessive rain will modify this route at the leaders discretion ;-) Extra credit miles/elevation will be determined after the snack break.



NOTE: About a 7.5 mile, 1,500-foot elevation gain loop hike starting at Sibley Staging Area parking lot. Route will be Skyline Blvd., Upper Huckleberry Path, connector trail to Redwood Regional Park, East Ridge Trail, West Ridge Trail, French Trail, Tres Sendas Trail, stopping to rest/snack at the bench at the bottom of Tres Sendas. Return will be Stream Trail, Eucalyptus Trail, Phillips Loop Trail, connector trail back into Huckleberry, Lower Huckleberry Path, Bay Area Ridge Trail/Skyline Trail back to the parking lot. Water/bathrooms at trailhead and Redwood Park's Skyline Gate Area.

NOTE:

Curry Point - Green Ranch Loop

A Challenging 8 mile, 1800 ft. loop hike in Mount Diablo State Park to explore the area burned during the Morgan Fire.

Starting from the Curry Point Parking lot (37.85203,-121.92553) down Knobcone Point and Curry Canyon Roads then up Frog Pond Road to Green Ranch Road where we begin a 1300ft climb to the Green Ranch Site for our snack break.

For the faster hikers a short/optional out-and-back to explore the Frog Pond adds an additional 0.4 mile before the big ascent.

After the snack break we continue on the Green Ranch Road, Oak Knoll, Summit, and Camp Force Trails to Curry Point.

Note: Please visit the toilets at Rock City or North Gate/South Gate Road Junction before arrival at Curry Point, as there are no facilities at Curry Point.

For those interested in carpooling, please meet at 8:30am at the Sycamore Valley Road Park and Ride lot located at the northeast corner of the I-680/Sycamore Valley Road interchange. 37.81223,-121.99165



EBMUD: Valle Vista

NOTE: A hikers choice of either a moderate 7.2-mile 1200-foot elevation gain hike or a longer 9.5-mile 1600-foot elevation gain hike from the Valle Vista staging area in Moraga to Redwood Regional Park. Route will be Redwood Trail, East Ridge Trail, Prince Trail and Stream Trail to Orchard area where we will stop for a rest/snack stop. The shorter hike will return via the Canyon Trail, East Ridge Trail and Redwood Trail to the Valle Vista staging area. The longer hike will continue to the fish ladder, Bridle Trail, Orchard Trail, West Ridge Trail, past the fish ladder, and Canyon Trail, East Ridge Trail and Redwood Trail to the Valle Vista staging area. Restroom at the staging area and water and restrooms at Orchard area. EBMUD permit required, but there should be enough permit holders to cover those who may not yet have one. Note that listed driving directions should specify about 5.8 miles, not 3+ miles after turning onto Moraga Road. Location for google map directions is: EBMUD Valle Vista Staging Area. Dogs OK, but must be on-leash on some Redwood Park trails.

Mt. Diablo State Park: Merlin Court/Green Valley Trail

Fossil Ridge Road, Artist Point Trail to Artist Point Overlook stopping to rest/snack. Return will retrace route back to the cars. Los Vaqueros - Morgan Territory Loop

Another Challenging 11.7 mile / 2700 ft. elevation gain loop hike. From CCWD Los Vaqueros Reservoir up into EBRPD Morgan Territory Regional Preserve and back.

We start from the Los Vaqueros Marina parking lot and loop in a clockwise direction on Los Vaqueros, Canada, Black Hills, Whipsnake, Volvon, Blue Oak, Miwok, Adobe, and finally Los Vaqueros Trails.

A snack break will be chosen somewhere in Morgan Territory. There is no water along the trail after we leave the Marina.



Kennedy Grove Regional Recreation Area: Kennedy Grove

NOTE: About a 7 mile, 1,000-foot elevation gain, mostly out-and-back hike starting in Kennedy Grove Regional Recreation Area. Route will be Bay Area Ridge Trail, Old San Pablo Trail, unnamed shoreline single track trail, Paved Park Road, Eagles Nest Trail, Nimitz Way Trail, Conlon Trail, connector trail to Wildcat Peak. After rest/snack return will retrace route back to San Pablo Dam Road, then rejoin shoreline trail back to the parking area. Bring EBMUD permit if available. Water/bathrooms at Kennedy Grove trailhead.

Shell Ridge Open Space: Bob Pond Entrance

NOTE: A hikers choice of either a moderate 6.5-mile 1000-foot elevation gain or a longer 8.5-mile 1400-foot elevation gain loop hike from Bob Pond to Macedo Ranch. Route will be Borges Ranch, Briones - Mt. Diablo, Shell Ridge Loop Trails, Stage Road, Little Yosemite, Briones - Mt. Diablo Trails, and Wall Point Road to Macedo Ranch. After a short rest/snack stop, return via Wall Point Road and Briones - Mt. Diablo Trail to the junction of Borges Ranch Trail. The shorter hike will return on the Borges Ranch Trail to Bob Pond. The longer hike will continue on Briones - Mt. Diablo, and Sugar Loaf  Shell Ridge Trails to Bullfrog Pond, then Twin Ponds Loop Trail to Twin Ponds, and Borges Ranch Trail to Bob Pond. Restrooms, water and picnic tables available at Bob Pond and Macedo Ranch. Dogs are not allowed in Mt. Diablo State Park.

NOTE:

Sibley to Tilden Out-and-Back

A moderate(+?) 7 mile, 1700ft out-and-back hike from EBRPD Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve to Tilden Regional Park. With an optional 8.3 mile, 1800ft longer hike to Volmer Peak.

This out and back hike takes us on the Bay Area Ridge Trail through EBMUD Watershed to Tilden for a snack break. The longer hike will ascend to Volmer Peak before returning.

The Sibley parking lot is located at 37.84757,-122.19868

Mt. Diablo State Park: Regency Drive

NOTE: FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY. A challenging 12-mile 3400-foot+ elevation-gain loop hike to Mt. Diablo Summit. The route from Regency Gate is Donner Canyon Road, Meridian Ridge Road, Middle Trail, and Prospectors Gap Road to Prospectors Gap; then North Peak Trail past Devils Elbow to the summit. After a rest/snack stop, return by the same route to Prospectors Gap, then Bald Ridge Trail to Murchio Gap, Meridian Ridge Road, Meridian Point Trail, Back Creek Trail, Back Creek Road and Donner Canyon Road to Regency Gate. No facilities on the trails. Carry adequate food and water for the day. There may be refreshments available at the Summit gift shop.

Briones - Alhambra Loop

A moderate+ 6 mile, 1500+ ft elevation gain hike from the EBRPD Alhambra Staging Area. We'll go in a clockwise loop through shaded wooded valleys and open grassy hills, stopping at Table Top for a snack break. Starting from the Alhambra Creek Staging area heading south on Diablo View, Spengler, and Table Top Trails to Table Top for a snack break with a great view. We return along the ridge line on Briones Crest, Old Briones Road, Spengler, and Alhambra Creek Trails. Please meet by at the gate at the edge of the Parking Lot. The Alhambra Staging Area is located at 37.95646,-122.12352



Shell Ridge Open Space: Bob Pond Entrance

Route from Bob Pond is Borges Ranch Trail to Twin Ponds, continuing on Twin Ponds Loop Trail past Bullfrog Pond, Foothills Trail, Stonegate Trail, Briones  Mt. Diablo Trail, 2nd Buckeye Ravine Trail, Shell Ridge Loop Trail and Stage Road to Castle Rock Park. After a short rest/snack stop, return via the Castle Rock Trail, Shell Ridge Loop Trail, Briones  Mt. Diablo Trail to the junction of the Borges Ranch Trail. The shorter hike will descend right on the Borges Ranch Trail to Bob Pond. The longer hike will continue on the Briones Mt. Diablo Trail, Ridge Top Trail, Costanoan Trail, Flat Top Trail, and Hanna Lane Trail to Bob Pond. Water, restrooms and picnic tables at Bob Pond and Castle Rock Park. Don Castro Regional Recreation Area: Main Staging Area

Route will be Whispering Creek Trail, Bay Area Ridge Trail, Deer Canyon Trail, Sandstone Trail, Diamond View Trail to Five Canyons Park to rest/snack/enjoy the view. Return on Five Canyons Parkway, Shady Canyon Trail, Bay Area Ridge Trail, Ridgetop Trail and Shoreline Trail back to the parking lot. Mt. Diablo State Park: Macedo Ranch

NOTE:

Burma Road Loop

A 11 mile / 3000 foot Challenging+ loop hike of Mt. Diablo State Park's Burma Road.

From Macedo Ranch we'll head up Wall Point Road, Dusty Road, Stage Road, Burma Road, Angel Kerley Road, Mothers, Burma Road, and Deer Flat Road Trails to Juniper Camp for a snack break.

We return via Juniper, and Summit Trails where we'll decide, based on the temperature, to return via Wall Point or BBQ Terrace/Stage Road Trails.

Warnings:This hike has several steep uphill portions.
Drinking water is not available on the mountain, you must carry what you need.
No Dogs.



NOTE: We are NOT going to the peak. Rather a moderate 6.5 mile, 1,200-foot elevation gain out-and-back hike from Hemme trailhead (use 560 Hemme Ave., Alamo for GPS). Route will be Ringtail Cat Trail, No Name Trail #1, Madrone Trail, No Name Trail #2, stopping to rest/snack at the picnic bench at south end of Rossmoor's newly named Clyde Wood Trail. Return will be Las Trampas Ridge Trail, Madrone Trail, No Name Trail #3, & Ringtail Cat Trail back to the parking area. No services on this hike. IGNORE THE TRAIL NOTES!

Roberts Regional Recreation Area: Redwood Bowl

NOTE: Moderate two choice hike, either a 5.5 mile or 7.5 mile loop hike. The short option is about a 700-foot elevation gain the long about 1,300-feet. Both begin at Redwood Bowl Staging Area (use 10060 Skyline Blvd., Oakland for GPS). Route will be Roberts Ridge Trail, Graham Trail, Dunn Trail, Golden Spike Trail, Montiero Trail, Dunn Trail, Baccharis Trail, West Ridge Trail,where the short hike will continue on the West Ridge Trail back to Redwood Bowl and the parking area. The long hike will descend the Chown Trail, stopping to rest/snack at Trail's End. Return will be Stream Trail, Mill Trail, French Trail, & Madrone Trail back to the parking area. Water/bathrooms at Roberts Park and also at Trail's End for those on the longer hike.

Tilden Regional Park: Inspiration Point

NOTE: IGNORE TRAIL NOTES. A moderate, approximate 6-mile, 1000-foot elevation gain loop hike from Inspiration Point to Wildcat Peak in Tilden Regional Park. Route is Curran Trail, Meadows Canyon Trail, paved path to Little Farm for a short water/restroom stop. Continuing on Wildcat Creek Trail past Jewel Lake, Sylvan Trail, Wildcat Peak Trail to Wildcat Peak. After a rest/snack stop, and perhaps a chance to view the Blue Angels arriving for Fleet Week, return via the Laurel Canyon Road and Nimitz Way to Inspiration Point. Dogs not allowed because of our route through the Nature Area.

Oktoberfest hike of Eagle Peak

Another Challenging 7 mile/2200 ft hike of Mount Diablo's Eagle Peak.

The route will be Donner Canyon, Murchio Road, Back Creek Road, Bruce Lee Road, Coulter Pine, and Eagle Peak Trails to Eagle Peak for a snack break.

We will then head back down the mountain on Eagle Peak, Meridian Ridge Road, Meridian Point, Back Creek, Murchio Road, and Donner Canyon Road Trails.

PLEASE NOTE:Due to a possibility of warm weather later we will start this hike at 9am.

Return continues down the East Avenue Trail and retraces back along the Wally Wickander Memorial Trail to the parking area. Water/bathrooms at trailhead.

Rocky Ridge Loop

A Challenging 8.5+ mile / 2500 ft hike from EBRPD Las Trampas into EBMUD land West of Rocky Ridge.

This hike will follow Rocky Ridge View, Cuesta, Rocky Ridge View, Sycamore, Devils Hole, Rocky Ridge Loop, Rocky Ridge Road, and Rocky Ridge View Trails.

An optional exploration side trip is planned to see Ramage Peak.

Briones Regional Park: Walter Costa Trail

NOTE: A challenging 6 mile, 1,600-foot elevation gain, partial loop hike using Lafayette's Walter Costa Trail to enter Briones Regional Park. Route will be Pine Ln, Timothy Ln, Los Arabis Drive, Quail Ridge Rd, Connector Trail #1, Cambridge Drive, Connector Trail #2, Panorama Dr. Then entering Briones Regional Park making a clockwise loop up Mariposa Trail, Russell Peak Trail, stopping at the peak's picnic table to rest/snack/enjoy the view. Return will be back down Russell Peak Trail, the other section of Mariposa Trail, and retracing the route back down the Walter Costa Trail to the trailhead.

Shell Ridge Open Space: Rockspring Pl Entrance

Either a hikers choice 6-mile 1100-foot elevation gain or 8-mile 1500-foot elevation gain loop hike in Shell Ridge Open Space. Route will be Joaquin Ranch, south Twin Ponds Loop, north Twin Ponds Loop, Sugarloaf  Shell Ridge, Briones  Mt. Diablo, Ridge Top, Flat Top, and Hanna Lane Trails to Bob Pond. A short rest/snack stop before returning on the Borges Ranch, Briones  Mt. Diablo, and Coyote Pond Trails to the junction with the Joaquin Ranch Trail. The shorter hike will return south to the trailhead on the Joaquin Ranch Trail. The longer hike will continue north to the Briones  Mt. Diablo, Fossil Hill Loop, Indian Creek and Joaquin Ranch Trails to the trailhead. Water, restrooms and picnic tables at Bob Pond. Dogs welcome, off-leash OK on the trails.

Mt. Diablo State Park: Macedo Ranch

NOTE:

(Secret) Wall Point Loop Hike

A two-for-one hike in Mount Diablo State Park. A 6 mile/1300ft or a longer 8.3 mile/1800ft loop hike from Macedo Ranch along Wall Point Road and Secret Trail.

Both hikes will begin at Macedo Ranch and follow Wall Point Road, Secret, and BBQ Terrace Road Trails to the Stage Road intersection.

The shorter hike will continue down Stage Road to Dusty Road Trail. The longer hike will head up Stage Road, Buckeye, Burma Road, and Stage Road Trails to Dusty Road.

Both hikes return to Macedo Ranch via Dusty Road, and Wall Point Road Trails.



Anthony Chabot Regional Park: Clyde Woolridge

NOTE: About an 8 mile, 1,800-foot elevation gain loop hike in Anthony Chabot Regional Park starting from Clyde Woolridge Staging Area (formerly called Grass Valley). Route will be Jackson Grade, Cascade Trail, Columbine Trail, Quail Trail, paved road to Hawk Ridge where we will rest/snack. Return on Two Rocks Trail, Mirador Trail, Brandon Trail, Escondido Trail, back on the Brandon Trail to the Stone Bridge and back up Jackson Grade to the trailhead. No facilities at trailhead but water and port-potties at Hawk Ridge picnic area.

Redwood Regional Park: West Loop from Redwood Gate

NOTE:

Redwood East Ridge Loop

A moderate 7 mile, 1300 ft. elevation hike in EBRPD Redwood Regional Park. We'll first hike up to the East Ridge before descending to walk amongst the stately Redwoods on this 70% shaded hike.

Starting from the end of the Wayside Parking lot, we follow the Canyon, East Ridge, Phillips, Eucalyptus, and Stream Trails to a snack break along Redwood Creek.

Our return takes us back through the Redwoods on Tres Sendas, Starflower, French, Orchard, and Bridle Trails.

The large Wayside Parking lot (on the left before Canyon Meadow) is located at 37.80485,-122.14637
Note: Currently there is no Weekday Parking Fee.



Mt. Diablo State Park: Regency Drive

NOTE: Hikers choice of either a 6- or 8-mile loop hike from Regency Gate in Mt. Diablo State Park. The route will be Donner Canyon Road, Clayton Oaks Road, Bruce Lee Springs Trail, Wasserman Trail, Cardinet Oaks Road, Donner Canyon Road, Hetherington Trail, Donner Canyon Road, and Tick Wood Trail to the junction of the trail to Donner Cabin. The short hike will continue on the trail to Donner Cabin and return on the Donner Canyon Road to Regency Gate. The longer hike will continue on the Tick Wood Trail, Back Creek Trail, Meridian Point Trail, Meridian Ridge Road, and return on Donner Canyon Road to Regency Gate. There will be a short snack/rest stop about halfway on the Hetherington Trail. No facilities available on this hike. Dogs are not allowed in Mt. Diablo State Park.

Dublin Hills Regional Park: Silvergate Dr.

NOTE: A moderate 8 mile, 1,600-foot elevation gain partial loop hike in the Dublin hills. Route begins on Dublin City's Martin Canyon Creek Trail, enters EBRPD's Dublin Hills Regional Park going clockwise on the Donlon Canyon Loop Trail up to the Calaveras Ridge Regional Trail and out to its end (trail marker #10). After snack/rest return back on the Calaveras Ridge Regional Trail and down the Martin Canyon Creek Trail to the trailhead. No facilities on this hike.

Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park: Pleasanton Ridge

Sinbad Creek

End of Summer Challenging hike of EBRPD Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park. This 11.8 mile/2000 ft hike takes us all the way along the ridge through Augustine Bernal to Sinbad Creek.

Starting from the Foothill Staging Area we'll take Oak Tree, Woodland, Ridgeline, Olive Grove, Thermalito, and Ridgeline Trails to the top of Bay Leaf Trail. At this point we descend on the Bay Leaf Trail to Sinbad Creek Trail where we loop back up to the Ridgeline Trail for our return.

The return path will follow the Ridgeline Trail all the way back to Woodland and Oak Tree Trails.

This is basically an out-and-back hike with a loop at the upper end, so various shorter hikes can be made depending on conditions and fatigue. Some water faucets are(were?) available along the Ridgeline Trail. A snack/rest stop will be chosen along the trail.

An 5.7 Mile, 1000ft out and back hike to EBRPD Anthony Chabot Bort Meadow from the MacDonald Staging Area on Redwood Road. An additional 1.5 Mile, 350ft loop on will be available for interested hikers.

Starting from the MacDonald Gate this hike takes MacDonald, and Grass Valley Trails to Bort Meadow for a snack break. The shorter hike follows the same path back.

The longer hike will make a clockwise loop on Buckeye, Goldenrod, Ranch, and Grass Valley Trails, before returning on the path that brought us to Bort Meadow.

Last year the tennis club allowed us to use their bathrooms, but they may not be open when we begin our hike. We will NOT be hiking to Las Trampas Peak, so IGNORE TRAIL NOTES BELOW!

Tolman Peak-Pioneer Trail

A moderate 7+ Mile/1400ft two loop hike of EBRPD Dry Creek/Pioneer and Garin Parks, with an optional 2 mile addon to Jordan Pond Dam.

This hike travels on May Road, High Ridge Loop, Tolman Peak, and South Fork Trails to Tolman Peak. Then continues on Tolman Peak, High Ridge Loop, Pioneer, and Meyers Ranch Trails where the longer hike will do an additional 2 mile loop on Dry Creek, Jordan Pond Dam, High Ridge Loop, Ridge View, and Dry Creek Trails.

All Hikers will return along Meyers Ranch, High Ridge Loop, and May Road Trails to the Parking Lot.

NOTE: A 2014 Trails Challenge hike estimated at 7+ miles with 1200+ foot elevation gain. From the Trails Challenge Guidebook: Wildcat Creek Trail begins east of the parking lot along a wide, paved fire road. Travel for 2.32 miles, then make a left on Havey Canyon Trail and head east into the forested area. Continue for 1.5 miles: you come out into an open field and head north and uphill. Make a left on Nimitz Way. After 0.68 miles follow signs for San Pablo Ridge Trail. Enjoy the sweeping views. Turn left on the Belgum Trail. Take this trail all the way back to Wildcat Creek Trail, and make a right to return to the parking lot. We will take a short rest/snack stop at the old Nike missile site near the junction of Nimitz Way and San Pablo Ridge Trail. Water and restrooms near the parking lot. A moderate+ 8.25 mile/1600 ft. hike of western EBRPD Morgan Territory from Finley Road.

Starting from Finley Road we travel up Old Finley Rd, Sulphur Springs, Grizzly, and Jeremiah Trails to Highland Ridge. We will return on Highland Ridge, Crestview Rd, Amphitheater, Walnut, and Old Finley Road Trails.

A snack/rest spot location will be chosen depending on the weather conditions.

For those traveling from I580 or the South, take the Northbound Tassajara Road exit from I580 to Camino Tassajara, after 6.5 miles turn right on Finley Road. The approximate gps parking location is 37.8125,-121.8573

NOTE: A 6+ mile hike around the upper rim of Lafayette Reservoir with about a 1100-foot elevation gain. We will have a short rest/snack stop near the restrooms at the dam near the 4-mile point. Dog friendly, but must be on-leash. NOTE: The distance and time is greater than described in the Trail Notes because we are starting from Via Granada rather than the dam.

NOTE: Two choices, 5.5- or 6.5-mile loop hike. The longer version is a strenuous, 6.5-mile, 2000 foot elevation gain hike to Devil's Hole, the lowest elevation in the park. The shorter version is a moderate 5.5-mile loop hike with a 1000-foot elevation gain. Both versions take the Elderberry Trail and the Rocky Ridge View Trail to the Devil's Hole Trail junction. The shorter hike continues on the Rocky Ridge View Trail to the paved road by the Comm Tower for the return to the parking lot. The longer hike continues down the Devil's Hole Trail to its junction with the Sycamore Trail near Devil's Hole. A moderate+ 7 mile, 1500+ ft elevation gain hike from the EBRPD Alhambra Staging Area. We'll go in a counter clockwise loop through shaded wooded valleys and open grassy hills, stopping at Table Top for a snack break.

Starting from the Alhambra Creek Staging area heading west on Alhambra, Orchard, Pine Tree, Toyon Canyon, and Briones Crest Trails to Table Top for a snack break with a great view.

We return on the ever challenging, but beautiful, Table Top, Spengler, and Diablo View Trails.

NOTE: A moderate 7-mile, 1000-foot elevation gain loop hike from Castle Rock Park to Macedo Ranch with an option to add a 1.5-mile, 400-foot elevation gain loop. The route to Macedo Ranch will be via Stage Road (Pine Creek), and Dusty and Wall Point Roads to Macedo Ranch. After a rest/snack stop, return via Wall Point Road, Briones Mt. A moderate 7 mile, 1300 ft. elevation hike in EBRPD Redwood Regional Park to the Redwood Bowl and back. We'll enjoy hiking amongst the stately Redwoods on this mostly shaded hike.

Starting from the large Wayside Parking lot (on the left before Canyon Meadow), we cross Redwood Creek by the fish ladder and ascend to the Redwood Bowl. We'll travel along Bridle, Orchard, French, Fern, and West Ridge Trails to a snack break in the shaded Redwood Bowl.

Our Return takes us back on West Ridge, Madrone, Starflower, Tres Sendas, Stream, and Bridle Trails.

A moderate 7.8 mile, 1500 ft. hike of EBRPD Tilden Regional Park. This hike has great views, some wildflowers(YMMV), lots of restrooms, and a Steam Train! (Whistle)

Starting from Inspiration Point along Curran and Seaview Trails around Vollmer Peak past the Steam Trains, where we may stop for a snack break. Then down Vollmer Peak Loop Trail and Youth Camp Road to Gillespie Youth Camp for another potty break. We continue on Tower, Golf Course, Redwood, and Selby Trails to Lake Anza, where you guessed it another W.C. stop.

Finally we complete the hike on Lake Anza, Wildcat Gorge, and Curran Trails.

Quick Way to Prospectors Gap

A Challenging, Steep 8 mile, 2500 ft hike to Prospector's Gap from Regency Road. With an optional additional 2 mile, 500 ft+ out-an-back add-on to Devils Elbow.

Starting from the Regency Drive Trailhead heading up Donner Canyon, Meridian Ridge Road, Middle Trail, and the invigorating Prospectors Gap Road to Prospectors Gap for a snack break. The longer hike will depart on the out-and-back to Devils Elbow on the North Peak Trail before returning to finish the main hike.

Everyone will return from the Gap along Bald Ridge, Back Creek, and Donner Canyon Road Trails.

Warning: This is very Challenging 4-5 hour hike! You must carry enough food and water for yourself to last the day(2-3 liters), as there are no facilities on the mountain. Sturdy hiking boots and hiking poles are recommended.



NOTE: Moderate 6 mile, 1,200-foot elevation gain loop hike in Las Trampas Regional Wilderness. Route will be Del Amigo Trail, Virgil Williams Trail, No Name Trail #1, Madrone Trail, No Name Trail #2, then returning back on the Madrone Trail (passing through the Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site) and the Del Amigo Trail back to the trailhead. No services on this hike.

NOTE: A 6-mile, 1600-foot elevation gain loop hike to view the Mount Diablo waterfalls. Route will be via Back Creek Road, Back Creek and Tick Wood Trails, Donner Canyon and Meridian Point Roads, Middle and Falls Trails to the Falls where we will take a short rest/snack/photo break. Another 2014 EBRPD Trails Challenge Hike along the East Bay Shoreline during a Low Tide (10:48 am). This easy, 10 mile, out-and-back hike takes us from the foot of Grant Road in San Lorenzo to the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center near the San Mateo Bridge.

We'll travel along the SF Bay Trail passing Oro Loma, Cogswell and Hayward Marshes on our way to the Interpretive Center for a snack break. With any luck we will have some good bird watching along the way.

Time to do this years EBRPD Trails Challenge hike of Morgan Territory Regional Preserve. This challenging 7.3 mile, 1500 ft hike will take us around Bob Walker Ridge in a clockwise direction. With any luck we'll see the snow capped Sierras.

Starting from the Staging area along Condor, down Coyote, up Stone Corral, and onto Volvon Loop Trails for a snack break. Continuing down Valley View, Manzanita, up Miwok, Blue Oak, Hummingbird, and Volvon Trails where we detour out along the scenic Prairie Falcon Trail. We finish the hike via Volvon, and Condor Trails.

Starting from Livorna Rd we'll head up Alamo, Hanging Valley, Briones-to-Mount Diablo, Little Yosemite, Stage Road, Buckeye Ravine, Briones-to-Mount Diablo, and Borges Ranch Trails to Borges Ranch for a snack. We then return via Borges Ranch, Twin Ponds Loop, Sugarloaf - Shell Ridge, Franco Ranch Loop, and Foothills Trails.

Sunol Regional Wilderness: Sunol to Mission Peak

Maguire Peaks

A Challenging 10 mile/2500ft hike from the main staging area over and around Maguire Peaks. This hike explores some of the prettiest, isolated, single-track trails of Sunol Regional Wilderness. This is a repeat of the August 25, 2013 hike.

This Hike starts at 10:00 am

From the main staging area we cross Alameda Creek and head up and over to Welch Creek road on Flag Hill, Flag Hill Loop, and the Welch to Flag Hill Trails. A short walk on Welch Creek road brings us to Lower Maguire Peaks Trail, where we begin a shaded ascent to the Maguire Peaks Loop Trail. From here we circumnavigate Maguire Peaks in a clockwise direction while enjoying the great views of Sunol Valley, San Antonio Reservoir, and the Livermore Valley.

After a snack break we will return along Maguire Peak Trail to Welch Creek road for another short walk along Welch Creek road to High Valley, and Hayfield road trails for the descent to the staging area.

As usual please ignore the trail notes below. We will meet near the toilets just past the visitors center by the foot bridge crossing Alameda Creek.



NOTE: Moderate 6.5 mile, 800-foot elevation gain, out-and-back hike in Castro Valley's Cull Canyon Park. Route will be along the Chabot-to-Garin Regional Trail/Bay Area Ridge Trail. Water/bathrooms at trail head. Meet at the footbridge near the middle of the parking lot. 10:00 AM start time.

NOTE: RAIN CANCELS: A 6-mile 1500-foot elevation gain loop hike to view the Mount Diablo waterfalls. Conditions permitting, an option for a 1-mile 300-foot elevation gain addition. Route will be via Donner Canyon Road, Bruce Lee, Wasserman, Cardinet Oaks, and Falls trails to the waterfalls where we will take a short rest/snack/photo break. Return via the Falls and Middle Trails, Donner Canyon Road, and Hetherington Trail to the Donner Canyon Road junction. This will be the decision point for the short and long hikes. The shorter 6-mile hike will return on the Donner Canyon Road to the trailhead. A moderate 6 mile/1100 ft elevation hike of EBRPD Redwood Regional Park. A great hike in the Redwoods with an option to add an extra mile and 300ft of elevation.

Starting from the Canyon Meadows Staging Area we walk past the fish ladder before ascending to French Trail on the Orchard Trail. We then follow French Trail through the Redwoods, returning along Starflower, Tres Sendas and Stream Trails. For those who wish a bit more of a hike, the option to extend the hike by about a mile exists by continuing on the French Trail to the Tres Sendas intersection.

Round Valley Regional Preserve: Main Staging Area

A 5-mile, 1000-foot elevation gain loop hike, which will be extended to about 8 miles for those wanting more exercise. The hike starts on the Hardy Canyon Trail and ascends to the high point, where we may take a short rest/snack stop and enjoy the view before descending to the Miwok Trail. The shorter hike will take the Miwok Trail inbound for the 1.7-mile return to the staging area. The longer hike will take the Miwok Trail outbound and turn right onto the Murphy Meadow Trail. Then a slight out-and-back detour to the Round Valley Group Camp. Continuing on the Murphy Trail, shortly past the junction with the Fox Tail Trail, we cross the creek on the new bridge to the Miwok Trail for the return to the staging area. An easy to moderate 2.5 mile Trails Challenge hike with an additional 2+ mile Out-and-Back for a total of 4.6 miles/1000 ft elevation.

This 1.5 pole hike takes the Grey Fox, and Stream View Trails to the ridge, where we head West on a short Out-and-Back on Redtail Hawk Trail to Paddock Drive. We return on Redtail Hawk, and Grey Fox Trails.



NOTE:

Sibley to Tilden Out-and-Back

A moderate 6.7 mile, 1700ft hike from EBRPD Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve to Tilden Regional Park. An optional 8 mile, 1800ft longer hike is available when we return to Sibley.

This out and back hike takes us on the Bay Area Ridge Trail through EBMUD Watershed to Tilden for a snack break near the Steam Trains. We return the same route until reaching Old Tunnel Road, where the longer hike will diverge from the shorter hike. The longer hikers will take a partial tour of Sibley on Quarry Road, Volcanic, and Round Top Trails back to the staging area.
