CASTLE ROCK to summit DIABLO City: WALNUT CREEK Region: EastBay Park: MNT DIABLO ST. PARKAlternate URL: Click Here Saturday, July 14, 2012 @ 8:30 AM Event Notes: this hike is in celebration for MARS whose birthday is 13 July. We will hike to the summit and back from CASTLE ROCK. Starting out with the CASTLE ROCK TRAIL we pick up STAGE ROAD to BBQ TERRANCE to WILDCAT TRAIL to the SUMMIT TRAIL on to the summit of MNT DIABLO @ 3,849 FT. Distance is about 12 miles with 3,475ft elevation gain. There are restrooms and water at the staging area, the summit and the lower parking lot on the summit No dogs allowed in Mt. Diablo State Park. Trailhead Directions: From 24 Fwy take the I-680 N exit on the left toward SACRAMENTO/CONCORD and then exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. From 680 northbound exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. Turn right onto Ygnacio Valley Rd and drive 2.2 miles to Walnut Ave. Turn RIGHT on Walnut Ave and drive 1.6 miles to the roundabout and take the first exit onto Oak Grove Rd. From Ygnacio Valley Rd westbound, turn LEFT onto Oak Grove Rd and drive for 1.1 miles to the roundabout. At the roundabout Oak Grove Rd becomes Castle Rock Rd. Drive for 2.1 miles to the Park.
