Event Notes: This is an easy to moderate hike that takes a little over an hour to complete. A little climb and switchbacks on the way up and nice easy descent on the way back. Mostly shady and we've done it on a very hot day. Great views for the effort and some wildlife..rabbits, deer, wild turkey and fun for the birdwatcher.

Trail Notes: My favorite loop starts by veering left from the main fire trail, going around the back of the hill where shady foot paths make their way up. Continuing to the left to switchbacks that take you to a ridge overlooking Clayton. At the top, you will be treated to a nice view of Walnut Creek. Take the footpath (as opposed to the fire trail) to get back down the hill, passing through pretty meadows where I have often encountered deer. Takes about 1 hour before the trail completes the loop to the fire trail that will take you back to the parking lot.
Directions to Trailhead:
From Walnut Creek, take Ygnacio Valley, turn right on Cowell into Montecito Housing Development. Parking lot is immediately to your right--limited spaces.
TrailHead Parking Fee: None
