Trail Notes:

This is a 6 mile hike, with a 1200-foot climb. Plan on 2 - 4 hours to complete this hike, depending on lunch breaks and your pace. I would not recommend this hike to beginners or anyone with a fear of heights. Though most of the hike is moderate, there are a few narrow spots, and actually getting to the falls may require climbing down some fairly steep terrain (though we won't be doing that!). Sunscreen and a hat and/or sunglasses are highly recommended. Bring LOTS of water!! Wear good hiking shoes for traction, but expect they might get muddy. Also beware of poison oak! To find the falls, take Donner Canyon Road to Hetherrigon Loop Trail, then up Cardinet Oaks Road to Falls Trail. Dogs are NOT permitted on any of the Mount Diablo trails.

Directions to Trailhead:

From I-680 Northbound or Hwy 24 East, exit at Ygnacio Valley Road (at Walnut Creek). At bottom of offramp at the stoplight, turn RIGHT on Ygnacio Valley Road. Proceed on Ygnacio Valley Road to Clayton Road in Concord (approx 7.5 miles) and turn right (east).

From I-680 Southbound, exit at Treat Blvd (at Walnut Creek). Turn left at the stop light, then immediate left at the next stop light (Treat Blvd). Follow Treat all the way up the hill into Concord (approx 8 miles). Turn right onto Clayton Road.

Proceed downhill on Clayton Road into the town of Clayton. At stoplight, turn Right onto Marsh Creek Road. At 4-way stop, turn RIGHT onto MOUNTAIRE PKWY. Follow to the End.

From Antioch/Pitttsburg, take Kirker Pass Road westbound and down the hill into Concord. Just past the Concord (Chronicle) Pavilion, turn LEFT at the light at Concord Blvd. Just past Indian Wells Way, Concord Blvd becomes Oakhurst Drive. Stay on Oakhurst and get into middle lane as you approach the intersection with Clayton Road (stoplight). Do not turn, instead continue STRAIGHT thru the intersection and past Fire Station #11. You are now on Center Street. Continue down the hill until you reach Marsh Creek Road (4-way stop). Turn LEFT onto Marsh Creek Road, then RIGHT at the next 4-way stop onto Mountaire Parkway. Continue to the end.
