Mitchell Canyon to Juniper Flat
City: Clayton
Park: Mt. Diablo State Park

Sunday, March 02, 2008 @ 9:00 AM

Event Notes:

This is a difficult hike. 2,400 feet of elevation gain and a round trip 11.4 miles. This is for experienced hikers who know they can do this. I estimate a 6 hour hike. There are restrooms, water and picnic tables at Juniper. There are also restrooms, water and picnic tables at the Mitchell staging area. The views from Juniper are awesome. Bring a camera.

Trail Notes:

This is a beautiful 11.4 mile round trip hike on the north side of Mt. Diablo. While it is not for fast hikers because of the leisurely pace, it is not for beginning hikers either because of the 2400 foot elevation gain. Our route will take us up shady Mitchell Canyon to scenic Deer Flat. After a rest break, we will continue to the picnic tables at Juniper Flat for lunch. We will then return the way we came enjoying spectacular views on the way down. Plan on spending 6 hours for this hike. Also, be sure to bring at least 2 liters of water per person, hat, sun block, and food for snacks and lunch.
