Meridian Ridge to Eagle Peak Trail

Meridian Ridge to Eagle Peak Trail
City: Clayton
Park: Mt. Diablo State Park

Saturday, February 17, 2007 @ 9:00 AM

Event Notes:

Meet at the Regency Gate in Clayton at 9:00am. We'll hike up the Meridian Ridge Trail (think nice steep climb). I recommend trekking poles for this hike, since there's quite a bit of gravel on Meridian Ridge. We'll hike to Murchio Gap, from which we'll descend on Eagle Peak trail, traversing Eagle Peak on the way. This is a slightly longer hike -- it takes 4 - 4 1/2 hours, so you might also want to bring lunch or a snack. I estimate our mileage to be in the vicinity of 7 to 8 miles, approximately. To get to Regency Gate, take Clayton Road into the town of Clayton. You'll pass Mitchell Canyon Road and the Diablo View school. Regency Drive is a private residential street that dead-ends right before the gate. You'll turn right at the light. There's parking on the street, no charge.

Trail Notes:

Meridian Ridge is a steep, gravelly fire road. We'll hike from Donner Canyon Road to Meridian Ridge to Murchio Gap, then descend Eagle Peak Trail. Eagle Peak is 2369 Feet of elevation, and there are some rocky craggy areas on the trail. It's difficult in spots, but doable for hikers who regularly hike 6 or 7 miles. Estimated mileage: 7-8 miles.

Directions to Trailhead:

Take Clayton Road into the Town of Clayton. Pass Mitchell Canyon Rd on your right and Oakhurst and Diablo View School on your left. Regency Drive is a private residential street with a traffic light at its intersection. Turn right on Regency Drive and park at the end of the street. Regency Gate is just down the hill from the Dead End.
