City: Clayton Park: Mount Diablo
Precautions: This hike is very rocky and steep in some areas with 2000 foot drop offs, sometimes on both sides of the trail. Good balance, physical fitness and courage in the face of extreme heights are must-haves. The pay off is some of the most spectacular views that Mt. Diablo has to offer!
From I-680 North or Hwy 24 East, exit at Ygnacio Valley Road. Turn right (east) on Ygnacio Valley Road to Clayton Road in Concord (approx 7.5 miles) and turn right (east).
From I-680 South, exit at Treat Blvd. Turn left (south) at the stop light, then immediate left (east) at the next stop light (Treat Blvd). Follow Treat all the way up the hill into Concord (approx 8 miles). Turn right (east) onto Clayton Road.
Follow Clayton Road to Mitchell Canyon Road and turn right (south). The road ends in the park at a parking lot.
