Event Notes:

Meet at the restrooms about 1/4 mile from the trailhead. About a 7-mile, 1000-ft elevation gain hike on what is predicted to be a rainy day. Expect wet conditions with some mud on the trails.

Route is across the baseball field and through the gate, left on Castle Rock Trail, right on Fairy Lantern Trail, continuing straight on the Shell Ridge Loop Trail to the power line tower, left downhill to the Borges Ranch Trail to Bob Pond.

After a short snack/rest stop at Bob Pond, continue through the gate on the Hanna Lane Trail, left on the Flat Top Trail, continuing left on the Flat Top Trail, right for a short distance on the Costanoan Trail, then left on the Ridge Top Trail, left on the Briones to Mt. Diablo Trail, left on the Shell Loop Trail, right on the Fairy Lantern Trail, left on Stage Road Trail to the trailhead.

Directions to Trailhead:

From 24 Fwy take the I-680 N exit on the LEFT toward SACRAMENTO/CONCORD and then exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. From 680 Fwy exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. Turn RIGHT onto Ygnacio Valley Rd and drive 2.2 miles to Walnut Ave (NOT Walnut Blvd). Turn RIGHT on Walnut Ave and drive 1.6 miles to the roundabout and take the first exit onto Oak Grove Rd. From Ygnacio Valley Rd westbound, turn LEFT onto Oak Grove Rd and drive for 1.1 miles to the roundabout. From the roundabout, Oak Grove Rd becomes Castle Rock Rd. Drive for 2.1 miles to the Park. Limited parking is available at the end of Castle Rock Rd but ther is additional parking at the Orchard Staging
