Black Diamond Twin Canyons Hike


Join us in the rolling green hills of Black Diamond Mines starting at font size = '+1'color='red'>9:30 am. A hiker's choice of a moderate+ 6.6 mile/1550' hike or an 8.3 mile/2000' challenging one. Please download and print out the attached map if you are reading this in an e-mail; if you are on the website, please e-mail the leader and I will e-mail you one.

Our journey begins up Nortonville Trail, left on Manhattan Canyon Trail, left to Chapparal Loop and right after the bridge. Follow up the hill to the Ridge Trail, turning left. Once at the top we will descend into the next valley on Stewartville Trail to the Stewartville Backpack Camp. Short hikers will rest here before returning on Stewartville Trail and then up the steep Miners Trail, rejoining Stewartville Trail, then right on Carbondale, left on Saddle, left on River View and right back to the parking area.

The long hike continues from the backpack camp right on Upper Oil Canyon and on up to the tower of power lookout for a break. Retrace back and turn right on Oil Canyon, left past the pond on Lower Oil Canyon, left to stay on Lower Oil, left on Stewartville past the backpack camp. Right on Miner's Trail, right on up Stewartville, veer leftish through the gate to stay on Stewartville on back to the parking area.

The trail will be marked with flour arrows along the route. Facilities at trail head and backpack camp. Dogs welcome. Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve offers over 65 miles of hiking trails on over 6000 acres of hills and valleys.


Directions to Trailhead:

From Highway 4, take exit #26A. Turn right on Somersville Rd and head south 1.4 miles. Continue straight through the entrance gate on Somersville, do not make any turns, following it all the way into the park, about 1.2 miles. Continue past the lower parking area for 1 mile to the end of the road, parking on the right.
