Hikers choice of a 6.3- or an 8.5-mile loop-hike from Walnut Creeks Castle Rock Park. The short hike omits the Borges Ranch loop.
Route is across the lawn through the gate and left on the Castle Rock Trail, continuing on Stage Road, left on the Sunset Trail and continuing on Falcon Road to the bottom of the hill. Then right on Little Pine Creek Road back up for a right turn on Burma Road down to Pine Pond.
The short hike turns right on Stage Road and continues for a rest/snack stop past the gate at the picnic tables at the junction of Little Yosemite Trail. After the stop, continue on Stage Road to the trailhead.
The long hike turns left on Stage Road, right on Dusty Road, continuing right onto Wall Point Road to Macedo Ranch for a rest/snack stop. Return back up Wall Point Road, left on Briones to Mt. Diablo Trail, right on Little Yosemite Trail, left on Stage Road to return to the staging area.
Water and restrooms at Castle Rock Park and Macedo Ranch.
No dogs are allowed in Mt. Diablo State Park.
The trailhead address is 1700 Castle Rock Road, Walnut Creek. Meet at the restrooms about 1/4 mile from the trailhead.
From 24 Fwy take the I-680 N exit on the LEFT toward SACRAMENTO/CONCORD and then exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. From 680 Fwy exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. Turn RIGHT onto Ygnacio Valley Rd and drive 2.2 miles to Walnut Ave. Turn RIGHT on Walnut Ave and drive 1.6 miles to the roundabout and take the first exit onto Oak Grove Rd. From Ygnacio Valley Rd westbound, turn LEFT onto Oak Grove Rd and drive for 1.1 miles to the roundabout. From the roundabout, Oak Grove Rd becomes Castle Rock Rd. Drive for 2.1 miles to the Park. Limited parking is available at the end of Castle Rock Rd but ther is additional parking at the Orchard Staging Area on the right before the end of the road.
