Trail Notes:

This is an out and back hike of about 2 miles round trip. The trail is a single track trail that runs along the side of the mountain slope. The views are spectacular, and the trail is fairly easy, mostly mild, gentle up and down slopes. We will go to Deer Flat Road and back. It will be cooler and probably more windy than down below, so wear layers.

Directions to Trailhead:

I recommend meeting at the carpool at Applebee's. For the adventurous types that want to drive to the trailhead alone, it is about 1.0 to 1.5 miles past (up) the Park Headquarters Office at the 2000 feet elevation where the North gate and south gate roads meet. The trail head is adjacent to a service road area at a hairpin turn just past one of the signs for the summit trail. You may not be able to see the sign post from the road. This trailhead is very difficult to find and very poorly marked, and available parking is very limited.

TrailHead Parking Fee: $6

CarPool Directions to AppleBee's:

From the Berkeley area, take 24 east to the interchange of 680/24 in Walnut creek. Take the Ygnacio Valley road exit. Turn right at the end of the ramp and follow Ygnacio Valley road for about 5 miles to the intersection of Oak Grove Road. Applebee's is on the right in the shopping center before the light.

From Benicia and areas north, take 680 south the Treat Blvd exit. Take Treat Blvd north for about 3 to 4 miles to Oak Grove Road. Turn right on Oak Grove and go about 2 miles to Ygnacio Valley Road. Turn right on Ygnacio and go to the first light and make a U turn, you will see Applebee's on your left before making the U turn.
