A 7.5-mile, 1200-ft elevation gain, loop hike from Bob Pond to Howe Homestead Park.
Route from Bob Pond is left on Costanoan Trail, right on Ridge Top Trail at the top of the hill, continuing through the gate on Ridge Top Trail, right near the water tank to stay on Ridge Top Trail, left on Fossil Hill Trail passing Marshall Drive park entrance and Indian Valley School, right on Live Oak Trail, left on Kovar Trail to Howe Homestead Park.
After a short rest/snack stop, return via Kovar Trail passing Indian Valley Pond, Indian Creek Trail, right on Joaquin Ranch Tail, left on Coyote Pond Trail, right on Briones to Mt. Diablo Trail, and left on the Borges Ranch Trail passing the Ranch to Bob Pond.
Water, restrooms and picnic tables at Bob Pond and Howe Homestead Park. Dogs welcome, off-leash OK on the trails.
From 680 Fwy, take Ygnacio Valley Rd for 2.3 miles to Walnut Ave (not Blvd). Turn right and proceed for 1.6 miles to the traffic circle. Take 1st exit onto Oak Grove Rd and continue on Castle Rock Rd for 1.0 mile. Turn right onto the signed road to Borges Ranch and continue for 0.6 mile to Bob Pond parking area. From the east, take Ygnacio Valley Rd to Oak Grove Rd. Turn left and proceed for 1.0 mile to the traffic circle. Continue straight on Oak Grove and continue on Castle Rock Rd for 1.0 mile. Turn right onto the signed road to Borges Ranch and continue for 0.6 mile to Bob Pond parking area.
